After spending 10 years’ working in the public sector within Research and Bid Development roles, I’ve taken the brave and bold transition into freelance work.

I’ve been fortunate to work with some exceptional companies and have developed bids and tender responses to the value of over £80 million to secure major EU/UK funded grants and commercial contracts for a range of businesses.

My main areas of expertise are education and skills tenders, having worked for one of the largest Further Education Providers as their main Bid Writer for over 8 years. However, I’ve won funding from a range of buying authorities and grant giving organisations including Sport England, European Structural Investment Funds, Erasmus+, Education and Skills Funding Agency, Department for Work and Pensions, Department for Education, UnLtd, Local Authorities, Ministry of Justice, and contracts for private and public sector organisations.

My decision to work freelance has been driven by a real desire to support SME businesses and VCSE organisations to secure appropriate funds to help sustain, grow or diversify their businesses.

Having worked first hand with businesses over the last decade, I understand the pressures and constraints which can impact the ability to balance the management organisational operations with the requirement to win new work. Often bidding befalls to the most senior figure in the organisation, or Business Development Manager, who may not have the requite skills to prepare the written proposal to ensure it fully reflects the quality proposition the company can deliver.

Smaller businesses tend to not have the resource, capacity or time to have developed infrastructure in place to identify, appraise and develop mechanisms and tools to make the bidding process  efficient and effective.

With this in mind, I’m taking the knowledge and experience I’ve gained through developing successful tender responses to work on a freelance basis with clients who require additional support with bidding for new work, or repeat business.

When I’m not working, I can be found in the nearest coffee shop, bookshop or wine bar, researching my next adventure and supporting independent retailers one (delete as appropriate -oat milk flat white/Malbec/G&T) at a time.
